Happy Endings
The following Shelties were all placed in their forever homes in 2010!
![]() AspenAspen is a 5 month old bi-black pup. He will be a big sheltie. His foster home worked on his socialisation, as he is a bit shy. As well as on his housetraining. He played well with their other adult Sheltie and likes to play with the toys. He has a very sweet personality. Although he liked to lie in the living room near the couch with his foster mom he was not yet ready to be petted and to snuggle with her. Aspen was adopted by a family who have another rescue sheltie and is settling in nicely to his new home. |
![]() HopeHope is a shy 5 year old Blue Merle girl. Hope was said to be shy but in fact was just being very cautious. She was significantly overweight which had created problems with an elbow dysplasia. She settled in well in her foster home. It turned out thet Hope was a litter mate of another dog surrendered to AST 2 years ago (Metairie) and was adopted by the same family where she immediately took over. |
![]() CedarCedar is a small 5 month old pup(litter mate of Aspen). He was rather shy on arrival in foster care but quickly learned to enjoy cuddling and short and playing with toys. His new home now is in a high rise condo downtown and he is taking it all in stride. |
![]() WillowWillow is a small Tri 7 month old Sheltie. In foster care she enjoyed laptime but seemed rather shy. She did well with house training and played with toys and other dogs.Although she did not seem to like to be touched she did like to have lots of people around. Willow has been adopted by a senior lady who recently lost her other dog. |
![]() SilverSilver is a small 18 month old fellow who was very very shy. Fine with other dogs he was very wary of human contact and preferred to stay in his crate, not even eating if he was watched. Some antianxiety medication and relaxation exercises began to help him and he went to his new home much sooner than anticipated with a lady who understood well how to deal with his shyness. |
![]() BanditBandit is a big blue merle with lots of coat. Used to being with dogs and cats he was however shy with humans. However with his foster family he began to learn that humans were OK and was gentle and polite. In his new home he has another sheltie to play with and has settled in nicely. |
![]() CaramelCaramel is a petite 15 year old found stray who reached ASR after a long journey . In foster care she proved to be a sweet girl who liked lap time. She was a bit overweight and needed some dental care. Although dogs this age are difficult to adopt out and often stay in foster care a long time she was only with ASR 3 weeks when somebody wanted to adopt her and she is having a wonderful life with her new human. |
![]() BreakerIs a 9 year old Blue Merle surrendered to the SPCA because the owners had recently retired and didn’t want 2 dogs! He acquired his name as a pup when he accidentally broke his jaw! He did need some dental work. He is a pretty friendly fellow and was adopted by a family who had adopted another dog from ASR 2 years ago. They get along well and he has fitted into the home very nicely . He is a vocal fellow and does have a habit of greeting everybody and everything when in the yard or on walks . |
![]() PaisleyIs a 5 year old Bi Black who was brought to a vets office with a request she be euthanised , reasons unclear. The staff talked them out of it and she was transferred to the SPCA. She was then turned over to ASR for fostering. This sweet little girl was rather fluffy and needed dental work which was done. Although initially a bit shy she warmed up to people quickly and turned into a bit of a social butterfly. She was adopted by a couple who had recently lost their senior sheltie and needed to fill an empty hole in their lives. Long walks every day reduced her weight and she is well known in the neighborhood! |
![]() ShellyShelly is a 9 year old originally thought to be a Sheltie Cross turned in to the SPCA. As it turned out she probably has no sheltie in her at all! She is a large, lovely, gentle and sociable lady who put the younger dogs in their place! Some time after she was surrendeed to SPCA and then to ASR, Shelly’s original owners tracked her down and we were happy to let them take her home. |
![]() LimerickIs a 4 year old Color Headed White sheltie. He is quiet and gentle, a bit shy with strangers but warms up quickly. He was not getting along well with other dogs in the home. Now he is living with another rescue, a sheltie cross , going for long walks every day and getting to know the neighbors. He is learning not to bark at the phone and the doorbell. His new people are thrilled with him . |
![]() AbbyAbby is a sweet calm 13 year old who was given up because of a family split. Although she was always an only dog she fitted in well with dogs in foster care and was quietly curious about other 4 legged animals! She was adopted by another foster family who recently lost a 13 year old and has quietly settled in with all the others in the house! |
![]() TuckerTucker was adopted on a whim by a family who realized quickly they simply had no time for a lively puppy. His new family however was ready for a pup and Tucker has settled in nicely. After a short stay in foster care. |
![]() BanditBandit was the result of an unplanned breeding whose owner had to give up his dogs. He has now settled into to a new home with his new friend Sam who is 7 years old. |
![]() Montana & JourneyMontana and Journey came from a pack of 75 Sheltie/Pomeranian crosses surrendered after the owner tragically died. The pups were spread out to shelters and rescues all over north western USA and Canada. They had never lived in a house, never had names or had collars and leashs on. Many were very shy, some were very social. All seemed to appreciate living in a warm house , not having to fight for food and having caring humans to look after them. Journey, was a social butterfly and quickly won everybody hearts and enjoys playing and learning from new big brother border collie Tully. Montana was quite a bit shyer but quickly attached himself to his foster mom and learned to enjoy walks. In his new home he has two pom sisters which seems entirely suitable! |
![]() Sandy & TobySandy and Toby came to ASR at 7 months of age. Although the same age they were not related. Their foster family fell in love with them and they were adopted- by the parents and an adult son within days. The family already had two rescue dogs- adopted as pups 2 years before . Although they live in different homes they spend most days together with their adopted brothers. |
