Adopting a Sheltie from Alberta Sheltie Rescue

Families hoping to adopt must be willing to take the Sheltie into their home as a family member, provide proper food, yearly vaccinations, clean water, daily exercise, adequate grooming and large amounts of love. Potential new homes are thoroughly pre-screened. With most Shelties, we require a fenced yard and we must see children interact with the dog. Unless specifically outlined in the dog's profile we do not adopt to homes with children under the age of 10. Preference is given to non-smoking households.

We try our best to find a home that best suits the Sheltie, and also a dog that best suits the home. If we do not have a Sheltie available for you at this time we can keep your information on file in the event that a Sheltie comes in our care who needs you.

Rescue dogs may have some "issues" to work through. We always try to advise you of any known "issues" a dog has prior to you adopting it. As well, we are available to help you if you run into problems once you have adopted the dog.

If the adopter is not satisfied with any aspect of the adoption, the dog may be returned to Alberta Sheltie Rescue, within two weeks of the adoption date, for a full refund of the adoption fee. At any point in the life of the dog past the two weeks after adoption, if the adopter is not able or willing to keep the dog, the dog must be returned to Alberta Sheltie Rescue per our adoption contract.
